Welcome from Dot López, Head of School

Announcing Our New Head of School

It is with great pleasure that we announce our next Head of School for The Friends School of Atlanta, Dorothy (Dot) López, who will start in the position on July 1, 2023!

Dot comes to The Friends School of Atlanta (FSA) from the Moorestown Friends School (MFS),  a preschool through 12th grade Quaker day school in Moorestown, New Jersey, with 622 students. With more than a decade of experience at MFS, Dot has served in several teaching and leadership roles since joining MFS in 2008. In addition to teaching mathematics, she developed and coordinated a wide-range of professional development opportunities for MFS employees, has served as a mentor for new teachers and has been a champion for issues around diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.

At MFS, Dot also serves as the Director of the Camden Scholars Program, which has been in existence for over 40 years and provides nearly full-tuition scholarships for academically talented students with financial need from the city of Camden, New Jersey, to attend MFS.

Those that met Dot during her visit to the school remarked on how she left them feeling inspired and excited. Our community loved her energy and presence, and noted how she engaged with students during her visit. Others commented on how she was ready to both lead and learn from the committed faculty and staff that we have. All of this adds up to Dot being a great next leader for the school.

When we started this process in the spring, the Search Committee asked this community for feedback and involvement. We would like to thank the entire FSA community for their engagement, support, and guidance to take the necessary time to identify the best person to build on our educational mission and lead FSA into the future.

Please join us in congratulating and welcoming Dot to The Friends School of Atlanta!

On behalf of the Board of Trustees,

Sara Patenaude
